Transport Policy

Policy Statement

Headway Belfast Transport Policy aims to reduce unnecessary expenditure and provide a more equitable service for all. Where possible all service users must make their own way to the Headway Belfast centre via public transport, community transport schemes such as Door-to-Door, or with a family member. Where this is not possible and individuals feel that they must use a taxi service, Headway Belfast will pay up to £5 per person (£7.50 per person for wheelchair users) in contribution to this cost. This will be considered on a case-by-case basis and will be paid in arrears following submission of a monthly expenses form.

Taxis – Headway Belfast Contribution Scheme

Where taxis are required they should be booked with the most suitable and cost-effective taxi firm. Service Users are responsible for their own bookings. Headway Belfast will support service users to become independent in making taxi bookings.

Public Transport

Service users who are able and confident enough to use public transport are encouraged to do so.  A regular Metro bus service by Translink  is available from Donegall Square West (west side of City Hall).  Service users can take the 5A bus from here to the top of the Castlereagh Road.  We are located on the left hand side (coming from town) opposite the Lidl store.

Some service users may also be eligible for a half fare smart pass.  Project Officers can help you with filling out an application form.  For more information and to find out if you are eligible visit www.translink.co.uk

Tuesday day service

A bus will continue to pick up those service users from the Lisburn area who attend Tuesday day service from two central pick up points located at Bow Street Mall and the Dairy Farm.
